Stewardship
At Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, we believe healthy wildlife habitat and human communities can co-exist. We work with private, public, and indigenous landowners to implement wildlife-friendly management and restoration of natural resources.
Partnering for Conservation
In partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, state wildlife agencies, and private foundations, Bird Conservancy employs Wildlife Habitat Biologists across six states who live and work in the rural communities they serve. These unique positions work alongside landowners, land managers, and resource professionals to build trust and deliver voluntary conservation throughout communities across the West. Since 2008, our Wildlife Habitat Biologists have delivered millions of acres of conservation to simultaneously improve human livelihoods, support vital habitats, and conserve wildlife populations in grasslands, wetlands, shrublands, and forests.
Why it Works
Healthy habitats for wildlife and productive working lands go hand in hand. For example, streambank erosion can threaten water quality and wetland habitats, and it also means a loss of workable acres of land. In grasslands, woody encroachment is a threat to wildlife like grassland birds, and it results in reduced forage production for ranchers. By working with landowners, understanding their goals and resource concerns, and providing expertise in wildlife habitat and conservation practices, Bird Conservancy seeks to offer stewardship solutions that meet the needs of people and wildlife.
Stewardship of our land, water, and wildlife ensures the continuation of working lands and the preservation of natural beauty for generations to come.
