Bioblitz at Barr Lake!

Want to learn about Earth Day and nature, live and in-person, from experts in many fields? Come to the Barr Lake State Park’s 2019 BioBlitz!
What is a BioBlitz? It’s an event that brings together natural resource experts, community volunteers, and members of the public to inventory all species (plants, mammals, birds, insects, fungi, etc.) in a specific area over a specific time period. Not only do you help with surveying our local resources, you’re working with experts who can answer your questions and enhance your understanding of our beautiful natural world. There might even be a BioBlitz dance!
SCHEDULE:
7-9 a.m. – Bird Banding
8-9 a.m. – Guided Bird Survey
9-9:30 a.m. – Welcome @ Meadowlark Pavilion
9:30-10:30 a.m. – Guided Mammal Survey
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – Guided Bug, Bee & Spider Survey
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Lunch & Kit Festival
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. – Guided Tree and Plant Survey
1:30 – 2:00 p.m. – Wrap Up & Final Species Tally!
This event is free but PLEASE NOTE a daily or annual vehicle Colorado State Parks Pass is required for entry into the park.
Tallies from the Barr Lake BioBlitz will contribute to the 2019 City Nature Challenge. Towns and cities around the world will be competing to see who can make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people. Download the FREE iNaturalist app and join the Colorado State Parks City Nature Challenge Project. We’ll show you how to use the app and document your findings at the BioBlitz!
This event is a collaboration between Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, Colorado Parks & Wildlife and the Friends of Barr Lake State Park, with support from the Science and Cultural Facilities District and Adams County.
