Barr Lake Bird Banding Station Program for Birdability Week 2021
October 23, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am MDT
Join Bird Conservancy of the Rockies Educators for an accessible outing at our Bird Banding Station located at Barr Lake State Park in Brighton, CO. We will be celebrating Birdability week for birders with disabilities or health issues.
We will meet at the Nature Center at 8:30am for the first session and 9:30am for the second session where bathrooms are available. On the way we cross a moderately inclined bridge and follow the wide hard packed dirt path for .3 miles to the banding station. We will be traveling approximately . 6 miles for the duration of the session. We will be birding along the way for 30 minutes there and 30 minutes back and stopping frequently.
Once at the banding station we have ample space for wheelchairs and spots to sit. We will be at the banding station for one hour. Binoculars and field guides will be available to borrow. No birding experience is necessary. All ages are welcome.
You will have a unique opportunity to experience science in action and observe a wildlife biologist banding and collecting important scientific data on live, migrating birds. You will also learn about specialized bird adaptations and behavior, annual migration, crucial habitat requirements, and key conservation issues. Bird banding data increases our knowledge and understanding of birds and is often utilized in management and conservation projects!
We will have access to an ADA accessible golf cart as well as one Track Chair if you need assitance getting out to the Banding Staion.
The event is free! However, you must pay $9 to enter the state park or FREE with an Annual State Parks Pass. Registration is required and space is limited to 12 participants of the first session and 9 participants for the second.
