Family Christmas Bird Count at Lake Minatare

December 15, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am UTC+0

Join Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and Nebraska Game and Parks as we conduct a Family Christmas Bird Count at Lake Minatare, Nebraska on December 15 from 9am – 11am! Normally Lake Minatare is closed to the public and serves as a wildlife refuge for the winter. By participating in this event you and your family can enjoy exclusive winter access to the lake for a few hours as we learn more about the birds that call the lake home for the holidays!

Modeled after National Audubon Society’s Annual Christmas Bird Count, this citizen science event encourages children and family to connect with the nature while learning about birds in their wintering habitat. We’ll learn about how to look for birds, count how many bird species we see, and warm up with snacks and hot cocoa while we tally up our total bird count.

The event will start at the Scout Cabin at Lake Minatare, Nebraska. To get to there, if you’re heading East towards the lake on Lake Minatare Road, take a left at Stonegate Road, then take the third entrance to the lake on your right, you’ll see a “Scouts Rest Campground” sign.

It’s free to participate, however state park vehicle passes are required.

For questions contact Amber Schiltz, Nebraska Wildlife Education Coordinator for Bird Conservancy of the Rockies via email or at 402-310-6137.
