WBBA Webinar: Black Swifts in Colorado
March 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm MST
Join the Western Bird Banding Association to watch a webinar with our very own Senior Spatial Ecologist and Black Swift Monitoring Lead, Rob Sparks. This is a two part webinar with Rob presenting first.
1) Black Swifts in Colorado presented by Rob Sparks of the Bird Conservatory of the Rockies. The Black Swift is an aerial insectivore that has evolved an almost exclusive lifestyle on the wing. This species is of continental concern but little is known about its movement ecology. We deployed accelerometers (wing activity devices) and GPS tags to fill in the missing movement ecology gaps across this species annual cycle. We recently discovered a new behavior, an amazing adaptation to moonlight and gained insight into their foraging patterns during the breeding season.
