Avian Ecologist (Fort Collins, CO)
Bird Conservancy is hiring an Avian Ecologist to oversee implementation of the large-scale breeding land bird monitoring program, Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR). The position will assist with hiring and coordinating field crews, training seasonal staff on IMBCR, field preparation, landowner outreach, conducting bird surveys, data entry and proofing, and completing IMBCR related deliverables. Executive Assistant (Fort Collins, CO)
Bird Conservancy is hiring an Executive Assistant to help the Executive Director (ED) and executive team with planning, communications and logistics for meetings and day-to-day operations. Specifically, the assistant will primarily support the ED to coordinate her calendar, help set up meeting agendas, take and subsequently distribute relevant notes, help with travel arrangements and gather materials and resources as needed. Avian Field Technician – Colorado
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning in Colorado with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You’ll travel across the state from low elevation pinyon-juniper, sagebrush and grasslands, to mid-elevation conifer and aspen forests to high-elevation alpine tundra. This position will have you birding every morning with the possibility of observing well over 100 bird species as well as many other species of Colorado wildlife. Avian Field Technician – Northern Great Plains
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You will work in Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota on both public and private lands and will move North and up in elevation through the field season. You will work in a vast range of elevation and habitats and have an excellent opportunity to explore the Great Plains and Black Hills. Seasonal Crew Leader – Northern Great Plains
The Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program provides reliable information on bird populations to guide conservation and management decisions utilizing a statistically rigorous design based on probabilistic sampling, and a broad network of partners that support the program across public and private lands. The crew leader will manage 5-6 seasonal technicians, communicate with private landowners, coordinate field logistics, and participate in research activities to determine basic population estimates of breeding birds in Wyoming and Idaho. Avian Field Technician – Southern Great Plains
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You’ll travel north with the spring through the western portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. This position will have you birding every day during the height of spring migration in the fantastic Great Plains flyway! Avian Field Technician – Southwest
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You will work throughout Arizona and western New Mexico on public and private lands moving from lower elevation to higher elevation throughout the season. This position will have you birding every morning with the possibility of observing Southwestern rarities such as Elegant trogon, Rivoli’s hummingbird, California condor, Gila woodpecker, Yellow-eyed Junco, Painted redstart and many more. Seasonal Technician – Mexican Spotted Owl Monitoring (New Mexico & Arizona)
Experience a season of adventure surveying for Mexican Spotted Owls on US National Forests throughout Arizona and New Mexico. Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is hiring 9 field technicians that will travel within a small team across the southwestern US to conduct Spotted Owl playback surveys. Technicians follow a strict protocol of broadcasting Spotted Owl calls and listening for responses, adding to a long-term monitoring dataset that informs the regional population trends of the owl. Seasonal Crew Leader – Mexican Spotted Owl Monitoring (New Mexico & Arizona)
Spend three months coordinating a long-term monitoring project on the US National Forests in Arizona and/or New Mexico. Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is seeking 3 crew leaders that will each steer a small team of three technicians to conduct Spotted Owl surveys. This is a unique opportunity to build leadership, management and mentorship skills while working on a charismatic federally-threatened species in the southwestern US. Successful candidates will have excellent inter-personal and organizational skills, will be passionate about working outdoors and comfortable working in the backcountry. Crew leaders are responsible for the logistical planning of the field season and will coordinate their crews’ schedule, gear use, and data collection. Seasonal Technician – Mexican Spotted Owl Monitoring (Boulder County, Colorado)
Experience a season of adventure surveying for nocturnal owls on the Arapahoe-Roosevelt US National Forest near Boulder, Colorado. All field work will be conducted with appropriate federal permits. Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is hiring 5 field technicians that will travel within a small team to conduct Spotted Owl playback surveys. Technicians follow strict protocols of broadcasting calls and listening for responses, as per USFWS, adding to a monitoring dataset that informs presence of the raptor species within forest management areas. Mexican Spotted Owl distribution along the Front Range of Colorado is not well known, this is a unique opportunity to work on a federally-threatened at the edge of its range.
