RMBO Migrates to Bird Conservancy of the Rockies

On Aug. 31, 2015, we changed our organizational name from Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory (RMBO) to Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. With the migration to a new name, we also adopted a new logo depicting a bird taking flight from its habitat and a new slogan, Connecting people, birds and land. Our mission, however, remains the same: We are committed to conserving birds and their habitats through science, education and land stewardship.

New and Old Logos

“After much reflection by our staff and board and many conversations with longtime members, supporters and partners, we have decided to become Bird Conservancy of the Rockies,” said Executive Director Tammy VerCauteren. “Just as birds make annual treks for the chance at productivity – the opportunity to thrive – so, too, are we migrating to a new identity after 15 years as Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory. We are still focused on conserving birds and their habitats. It is time, though, to adopt a name that more accurately and completely reflects who we are.

“We’re excited to migrate with you!”

Why Bird Conservancy of the Rockies?
Bird: Our feathered friends have always been – and will continue to be – our primary focus. Birds are a wonderful part of our natural world and indicators of environmental change.
Conservancy: This term most accurately reflects who we are as an organization: We conserve birds and their habitats.
Rockies: Our headquarters exist in the Rocky Mountains, and our work radiates from this region to the Great Plains, Mexico and beyond.

Why change our name?
We migrated to Bird Conservancy of the Rockies to:

More accurately and completely reflect who we are in our name: Since our earliest days, we have had robust bird population monitoring, bird banding, and citizen science and education programs. Through 25-plus years of progress, we have greatly expanded the breadth of our work to include cutting-edge research, private lands conservation and international programs. We have grown into a conservancy, and our new name (Bird Conservancy of the Rockies) better reflects who we are and better positions us to achieve continued success in the future.

Reach new audiences: As the scope of our work has increased, so has the need to expand our community of partners and supporters.
