On The Wing – Overnight Camp (Ages 15-17)

Dates: June 20 – June 28, 2024
Tuition: $1,400/week
Location: Camp takes place in Jamestown, CO. Drop-off and pick-up take place at the Environmental Learning Center in Brighton, CO

In our longest running camp program, we aim to provide our eldest campers with opportunities to learn about careers in natural resources, spot new lifer species and create an investigative research question about the things that inspire them. From trekking through the tundra of Rocky Mountain National Park to camping among the woodland forest in the foothills, we aim to truly take these campers soaring over different unique spaces learning and having fun throughout.

Wild Nestlings Mini-Camp (Ages 4-5)

Our youngest campers will explore the great outdoors through nature walks, crafts, stories, games, and structured outdoor play. Mini-Camps focus on building connections to the outdoors through sensory experiences, and building friendships among campers.

Raptor Camp (Ages 8-9)

Raptors are top predators here on the grassland! Campers will learn all about the variety of raptors that live in Colorado, as well as their adaptations and the food webs that they dominate.  All of our Day Camps strive to balance learning and fun through games, hikes, crafts, scavenger hunts, and structured outdoor play.

Budding Birders Camp (Ages 6-7)

Hone your birding skills in this camp designed to take your birding to the next level! Campers will become experts in binocular and field guide use, and build their observational and scientific skills. All of our Day Camps strive to balance learning and fun through games, hikes, crafts, scavenger hunts, and structured outdoor play.

The Big Week (Ages 10-11)

In The Big Week, campers will hone their observational and scientific skills in order to see as many bird species as possible. In 2023, campers saw 31 different species; can you help us top that in 2024? We will explore different habitats and seek out the birds that call them their home. All of our Day Camps strive to balance learning and fun through games, hikes, crafts, scavenger hunts, and structured outdoor play.

The Magic of our Environmental Learning Center

Flowers are blooming, birds are singing and kids are learning! The Environmental Learning Center (ELC)  at Bird Conservancy of the Rockies has become a place of respite and refueling for both people and nature. Situated on the northwest shore of Barr Lake State Park where the cottonwoods grow tall is our outdoor learning center that provides a unique space for all people to visit and learn about the local ecosystem and all it has to offer.

On The Wing Overnight Camp (Ages 15-17)

Location: Camp takes place at Highlands Camp in Allenspark, CO. Drop-off and pick-up take place at the Environmental Learning Center in Brighton, CO

This camp is for teenagers who aspire to careers in natural resources. Based at a residential camp near Rocky Mountain National Park, campers will have the opportunity to design and conduct mini-research projects in the surrounding forests. Campers will work together to develop a hypothesis, collect scientific data, draw conclusions from their data, write technical scientific research papers and present their findings to a group of natural resource professionals. In addition, campers will take part in traditional camp activities and learn field journaling, field sketching, field guide and binocular use, bird and plant identification, and field biology. The cost of this camp includes all lodging and meals. REGISTER HERE!

This overnight camp is the next step for budding birders and young nature enthusiasts who want to take their birding skills to the next level and also enjoy outdoor adventure, traditional camp activities and nature exploration. For 6 days and 5 nights, campers will call a cabin near Rocky Mountain National Park their home. They will have the opportunity to explore the ecosystems of Colorado’s Front Range, while honing their bird identification and leadership skills, gaining independence and responsibility, and making new friends!
