Sensory Exploration: Family Nature Club

Join educators with Bird Conservancy for the new year of the Family Nature Club series! Join us for the Sensory Exploration: Family Nature Club! Play in games and activities that explore how animals use their different senses (smell, touch, sight, sound) to explore the world around them.
Sensory Exploration will be outside the entire time. Please dress comfortably for the weather and bring snacks/water as needed.

Pineridge Conservation Night

Birdability Week Celebration

Join us as we celebrate the close of Birdability Week! We will have guided birding tours, guided trips to the bird banding station, interactive booths, and more! We will have binoculars, field guides, and adaptive equipment to borrow. Two Track Chairs are available as well as an ADA accessible golf cart.
This event is free! However, you must pay $9/vehicle to enter the state park or FREE with an Annual State Parks Pass.

Accessible Sunset Birding

Enjoy a relaxing evening of birding around Barr Lake in support of Birdability Week! This is a great opportunity whether you are a seasoned birder or wanting to get started. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend. We will have binoculars, field guides, and adaptive equipment to borrow. 11th Annual Denver Audubon HOOTenanny

Discover the secret life of owls through live owl demos from Nature’s Educators, crafts, activities, and interactive tables from nonprofit partners like Colorado Parks & Wildlife, U.S. Forest Service, and Bird Conservancy of the Rockies.

Our largest family event of the year and the only owl festival in the Denver-Metro area!
  • Live owl demonstrations with Nature’s Educators at 10:30, 12:00 and 1:30
  • Owl crafts for kids
  • Hidden owl scavenger hunt in our Native Plant Gardens
  • Owl pellet dissections – discover what owls eat
  • Live folk music from local Denver band Nearly There
  • Educational owl booths from partners including Colorado Parks & Wildlife, Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, and U.S. Forest Service
  • Owl merchandise in our gift shop and from local vendors

Barr Lake Banding Station Visits

Visit our Bird Banding Station located at Barr Lake State Park this fall for an up close and personal experience with birds! You will have a unique opportunity to experience science in action and observe a wildlife biologist banding and collecting important scientific data on live, migrating birds. You will also learn about specialized bird adaptations and behavior, annual migration, crucial habitat requirements, and key conservation issues. Bird banding data increases our knowledge and understanding of birds and is often utilized in management and conservation projects!

The Banding Station is open from August 24th – October 23rd, 2022 and one hour programs are available Tuesdays – Fridays from 7:30-8:30a, and Saturday-Sunday from 8-9a, 9-10a, and 10-11a (closed Mondays). Registration is required for all timeslots.

Schedule is weather permitting. Station is closed during rain or high winds, and may close early during very hot weather and open later if very cold.

Programs are limited to a total of 15 participants to ensure the safety of all visitors, staff, and volunteers.

Access to the Banding Station requires a short walk on a gravel trail. Please let us know if we can offer any accommodations or assistance to help you get to the Station.

Please note a $9 Daily or Annual Colorado State Parks Pass is required for entry into the park at all times.

CANCELLED Birds of Winter Day Camp (Ages 6 – 10)

School is out and birds are in! Join us as we explore what it takes for birds to survive the winter at Barr Lake. Campers will hone their birding skills along our local trails, discover what resources wintering birds need through fun and interactive activities, create bird-themed crafts, and much more! Come and make new friends at Bird Camp.

Dates: Wednesday, December 28th – Friday, December 30th from 9am – 3pm. Daily.
