Volunteer Work Day & Open House

All interested volunteers are invited to join us for our bimonthly Volunteer Work Day & Open House! We will be completing various landscaping, gardening, maintenance, and administrative projects as well as talking about Bird Conservancy’s volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome to attend. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

Bimonthly Volunteer Gathering & Bird Walk

Join us for a relaxing, fun bird walk to meet other volunteers and staff. We’ll meet at the Environmental Learning Center at 9 a.m. and conclude our walk at 10 a.m. Please dress to be outside and bring a water bottle and your binoculars.

Education Volunteer Training: In-Class Programs

Join us at this training to learn about our in-class programs, the curriculums, teaching strategies, and how to become a in-class program leader. Program leaders:

  • Lead groups of students or adults through structured in-class programs, including programs on migration, adaptations, water, ecosystems, conservation, bird banding demonstrations, and school-wide bird festivals.
  • Work with different age groups, and be flexible in adapting your lessons to the appropriate grade level
  • Facilitate inquiry-based experiential learning
  • Embrace teachable moments

This training is for new volunteers, and is recommended as a refresher for returning volunteers.

If you’re interested, you are welcome to attend; no teaching experience is necessary, though experience with children is preferred. Applicants with a working knowledge of natural resources, natural history, ornithology, or who have the willingness to learn, are comfortable speaking in front of a group, and are reliable, adaptable, team players are encouraged to apply.

Programs vary in length, with in-class sessions between 45 mins to an hour, dependent on program. In-class programs occur throughout the year, Monday – Friday, with a focus in the metro-Denver area.

General Education Volunteer Training

Are you interested in becoming an Education Volunteer with Bird Conservancy of the Rockies? Join us to learn about our different program curriculums, teaching strategies, and find out what it means to be an Education Volunteer!

We are looking for individuals to educate and inspire students and the community to conserve birds and their habitats through interactive in-class programs, field trips, summer camps, and educational outreach events. No teaching experience is necessary — just a willingness to learn!

Join us at this training to learn about our bird banding field trips, the curriculum, teaching strategies, and how to become a bird banding field trip program leader. Program leaders:

  • Lead groups of students or adults through structured bird banding focused field trips, including a bird walk, migration activity, and sharing information at the banding station
  • Work with different age groups, and be flexible in adapting your lessons to the appropriate grade level
  • Facilitate inquiry-based experiential learning
  • Embrace teachable moments

This training is for new volunteers, and is recommended as a refresher for returning volunteers.

If you’re interested, you are welcome to attend; no teaching experience is necessary, though experience with children is preferred. Programs vary in length, between 3 – 2 hours, dependent on program. Banding field trips occur late August – mid-October, Tuesday through Friday. Banding programs take place at the Barr Lake State Park Nature Center.

Lake Appreciation Day at Barr Lake State Park

Celebrate lakes by participating in fun, educational, and recreational activities. Show your appreciation for Barr Lake State Park through service activities on Saturday, July 13th at both the park and Bird Conservancy. Bring your family, friends, and/or coworkers. Free park admission for volunteers!

Volunteer projects at Bird Conservancy will include landscaping, gardening, trail maintenance, and more!
